Microsoft Updates Xbox PC App with 60% Faster Startup and Redesigned Interface
Microsoft announced a significant update to its Xbox application for Windows, promising a 60% reduction in startup time alongside a comprehensive interface redesign. The update also introduces structural changes to social navigation and enhances the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience across browsers and devices.
Microsoft has released a major update for its Xbox application on Windows, prioritizing performance acceleration and a complete visual overhaul of the software’s interface. The company stated that the primary technical improvement allows the app to launch up to 60% faster than previous versions.
Beyond the initial startup boost, Microsoft reported that core pages—including Home, Store, and Game Pass—now load approximately 50% quicker. Internal application windows also saw efficiency gains, with response times improved by as much as 65%.
The update introduces structural changes to how users navigate the platform. The social section has been integrated directly into the main navigation bar, allowing immediate access to friend lists and social features without switching tabs. Additionally, Microsoft updated filtering options and introduced new methods for organizing the game library.
Xbox Cloud Gaming received enhancements for browser-based play. A new library tab centralizes access to titles, whether purchased individually or included in Game Pass. The web interface now includes a Desktop mode optimized for larger screens and offers new contrast settings.
Improvements also extend to Smart TVs and virtual reality devices. In a parallel update, Xbox Cloud Gaming previously enabled users to use mobile phones as controllers during TV streaming sessions.
The Windows app update is currently available exclusively to members of the Xbox Insiders program. Microsoft confirmed that a general public release will follow at a later date.
